Mr. Gay World

THE BRIEF

The Mr. Gay World Organization needed a new logo to usher in a new era for their international pageant. The organization welcomed new owners and with it came new directions and purpose. They needed a new and modern identity that can rival other international platforms of pageantry.

IN RETROSPECT

We cannot move forward to the future without considering the past. We see various iterations of the Mr Gay World logos through the years.

But what was most consistent was the use of clean, and minimalist sans serif fonts that were fit for a modern and all-inclusive pageant for gay men.

We also see how the letter ‘O’ in “World” kept on changing and adapting to the host country for each year.

NEW ERA: BREAKING GLASS CEILINGS

The new era of Mr Gay World is accompanied by a new logo that is a combination of an icon and a modern wordmark.

The icon is a monogram that puts together the letters M, G, and W. Its sharp corners is a reflection of the political statement the pageant makes as it defies norms, challenges traditions, and resists any form of oppression to the LGBTQIA+ community.

The international platform acknowledges the role of gay men in advancing the plight of the community and making groundbreaking programs on the global stage.

THE CROWN AS ICON

In an alternative horizontal version of the new logo, we can see the MGW monogram icon repeated multiple times to form a crown. The current Mr Gay World crown is an actual crown, not a tiara. It doesn’t have a beginning and an end. This means that the titleholder is a queer royalty forever.
